Too Many Action Films?

Have you ever watched an action film where two men fight atop a moving train and thought how do they keep their balance?

This is how we imagine the event looked. Original train image copyright, Graham Holden 2011. We added the man for authenticity. (photos@gholden.co.uk)

Well that is what a Worthing man decided to find out last week.  A passenger train in Sussex was stopped on Wednesday July 27th at approximately 14:25 when a thirty-nine-year-old man climbed on top of it.

Unfortunately, unlike in films, where people battle atop a train for what seems like an eternity totally unnoticed, passengers noticed this chap fairly soon.  The journey from Haywards Health to Littlehampton was delayed by nearly an hour whilst transport police retrieved him from the roof of the train.  He was then taken for medical attention.

We asked one Superhero, who perhaps unsurprisingly preferred to remain anonymous, what they thought of the events in Sussex.

“Whilst this incident cannot have done any good to the assumption that trains never run on time, it has shown the effect films such as The Matrix, James Bond, North by Northwest and Spiderman can have on the general public.  Riding on top of trains should only be done as a last, world saving resort and never for frivolous reasons.  People, leave train surfing to the superheroes, they provide comfortable in-train seating for the general public.  Thank you Newsnibbles for letting me get this important message across.”

We are glad to help get this message across to literally tens of people.
