Snake’s Alive!

We’ve all heard of people using an old stocking to replace their fanbelt in an emergency, but a snake?

Believe it or not, we did not have a picture of a snake in our stock. There may be one hidden here if you look closely. Image copyright, Graham Holden 2010 (photos@gholden.co.uk)

Mechanics at a garage in Oxford had more than they bargained for this month when they lifted the bonnet of a car to discover a seven foot boa constrictor lurking within.

The car, ironically a Mini, was in for an MOT when the discovery was made.  The owner apparently had no knowledge of the snake squatting in his engine.  A diet of engine grease and petrol did not seem to suit the snake as it appeared thin.

Unable to collect the snake until the next morning the RSPCA recommended the mechanics leave the boa in its current location overnight, but according to the mechanic the car owner was less impressed with the idea of having a squatting snake in his engine.  For this reason, Bob (Okay, we don’t know his name was Bob, but it seems to suit a boa) was stored in a bin with a lid overnight until the RSPCA could retrieve it the next day.  Surely the customer waiting area would have been more comfortable, but then perhaps the snake was agoraphobic and preferred dark confined spaces.

According to the Oxford Mail the snake is now rehomed in a much less oily environment.  There’s lovely.
