Interview With Valentina Monetta

Continuing with our Eurovision themed week we have a special treat for you.  An interview the San Marino’s entry for this year’s Eurovision, Valentina Monetta.

  • Tell us a little bit about yourself and your career to date.

I’m a girl who forgets she’s a woman very often. I’ve been singing since I was 5 years old and music has always been a part of my life. My father plays music and my mothers sings a little. In our house there has always been music. I first started to learn singing by myself listening to pop music and soul, and later on I discovered jazz. During my final school years I started singing in clubs and when I realized it’s what I want to do, I started studying more seriously music and vocal techniques. So in short, after many years of various experiences and learning and workin hard, it is paying off with various splendid opportunities. Most of all this very beautiful experience of participating in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012.

  • What would bringing the Eurovision Song Contest home to San Marino mean to you?

It would be like an earthquake….. it will mean the world. It will make us unique in the world and people will be reminded of the romance that is my country.

  • A social network as the concept of a song is really an innovative concept when you consider how big an impact they have on our lives these days. Whose idea was it?

It was everybody’s idea… but someone just thought of turning it onto a song! I would say that for many people, social networks are vital.

  • When it was first announced that the name “Facebook” would not be allowed did you ever consider changing it to something like “Fish Hook” and giving the song a whole new slant?

Haha thanks for the idea! The song became “The Social Netwok OH OH UH OH OH” and I think it’s even better…. just because now even my voice reflects the meaning of the message. It now a little bit of me, and a little bit of the message. This version has more of my voice in it than the first one. And you’ll be able to hear my voice in Baku.

  • We get the impression from your outfit and laptop in the video that you are pro sparkle, is that a fair statement?

Anything that can kickstart my global friend request!

  • How has the song been received by your fans and the media in San Marino and abroad?

Very well! Some may have judged it not so well, but we’re just fine with that! As they say, the world is beautiful because it is different.

  • Anything you would like to add?

I would like to invite you all to my house 😀 But I can’t… so join my on Facebook! Hahahahaah….. :))))
