RAF Called Out For Lost Ramblers

Here at Newsnibbles we enjoy a good ramble as much as the next active, fit get up and go types, but we have found that when rambling

in strange places it is usually advisable to take some sort of mapping equipment.  As we do not feel equipped to navigate using the stars, and have no natural sense of direction as such, we prefer to bring a map, or a sat nav on our rambles, call us wimps if you like.

None of that nonsense for some ramblers in Snowdonia, who had to call out an RAF helicopter to save them when they realised they had no clue where they were.  It was fortunate for all concerned that they brought their mobile phones, although this is not specified in the BBC Report  – we are simply assuming that they did not signal the RAF with smoke signals or a flair gun, but here at Newsnibbles we know that anything is possible.

Fortunately the pair were unharmed by their ordeal, and it is unclear as to whether they will be investing in some sort of mapping equipment before embarking on their next mountaineering adventure.

So, it turns out that this was not really much of a story at all, breaking it down: some people went up a mountain without a map, called for help and were rescued, we figured if it was in the BBC it was worth looking into.  Ah well.

Since we started we figured we should ask the fans if they’d ever felt a bit lost, and if so what they did:

Pat said: “Tried to follow the sun. This failed, because it was at night. Then I tried the stars. This failed because it was cloudy. Then I sat tight for a bit and realised I had GPS on my phone.”

Bee said: “Curled up on a weeping foetal ball.”

Chimp said: “SatNav” – he is a man of few words.
