Dress Down For Work!

An Iowa Court ruled last week that a Dentist who sacked his assistant on the basis that

he was worried he might have an affair with her did not discriminate against her based on gender. The Raw Story reported that the woman lost her discrimination lawsuit, which means she was not terminated because of her gender. The ruling was based on a president that the Dentist ran a family practice, and his assistant of ten years had the potential to cause family strife.

The Raw Story stated:

[The Dentist] worried he would attempt to start an affair with [his assistant], though [she] claims she saw her boss as a father figure and never considered a relationship with him.

According to the lawyer for the Dentist:

While there was really no fault on the part of Mrs. Nelson, it was just as clear the decision to terminate her was not related to the fact that she was a woman.

So, does that mean that an attractive male assistant would have been sacked for the same reason?  Well that’s completely fair then.

We particularly liked the photograph The Raw Story chose to run with this piece, a terribly attractive scientist type woman in blue scrubs, with a stethoscope around her neck looking seriously at a glass of what appeared to be orange juice*.  Not a good decision for a dental assistant as fruit juice can erode the enamel, or so we hear.

*on second look it could have been disturbingly dark urine, what do you think?

We asked the fans whether they had every been told they were too attractive.

Denise said: “Sadly not.”

Barry said: “All the time…”

Pat said: “All the time. Oh, wait, attractive? I thought you meant “eager to write poor attempts at humour in Facebook comments”.” – It may be time to let Pat go as the effect he has on Badger is uncanny…
