Found in Translation

It’s week three of “Found in Translation”, the section of Newsnibbles where we work with our friends at Ammy’s Delight to learn a Dutch saying, and if it has an equivalent in English.  It’s fun to learn what we all have in common, so if you have a version in your language, let us know, either in the comments, on Facebook or Twitter.

So, this week’s saying is:

De hond in de pot vinden

Which literally translates as:

Find the dog in the pot

But, used in context means:

All the food is gone

And of course, in English we say:

The cupboard is bare

What do you say in your language?
