Well, we’ve been a bit Gromit crazy, and Badger’s been busy writing another masterpiece (check out her Badger Book Blog if you fancy a sneaky look at the latest work in progress). So, just cos we’ve been incredibly Gromit focused doesn’t mean we haven’t been keeping our eyes peeled for some random news to tickle your taste-buds, so here goes!
New Staff Training Includes Insult Guide
Well, we were quite excited when we read the headline on The BBC Website that “Liverpool FC staff get insults guide to curb fans’ abuse”. Without wanting to be judgemental we assumed the staff at Liverpool would probably have an array of insults at their fingertips, should they be required, but how thoughtful, we thought, to provide the possibly less experienced staff with a handbook of choice insults to bombard abusive fans with. But no. Alas. The handbook was to inform of inappropriate insults that they should not tolerate. These aim to reduce sexism, racism and homophobia, which is great. Good for them. According to the BBC report:
Antoine Zammit, editor of fans’ blog Empire Of The Kop, said overall he thought it was a “good policy” but said he thought it was “excessive” to claim the phrases “man up” and “playing like a girl” were offensive.
Well, if you look at the recent performances by Arsenal Ladies (3-0 against Liverpool, oops) it is actually a compliment, but this is probably not what he meant. Here at Newsnibbles we hope for the day when neither lady skill, or lady parts are used as an insult, so well done Liverpool for taking the first step.
Squeee! It’s a Zonkey!
Well, we had to share this one with you, it’s just too cutes! A Zonkey has been born in Italy! It is just so romantic too. Not even a fence could keep her parents apart, and one cold* night the amorous Zebra scaled the fence separating him, and the magic happened** The result, named Ippo, looks like a donkey on top, but with stripy legs! Squee!!! According to the ABC News Report (click the link to see a picture) she is the only one of her kind in Italy, but there is another healthy Zonkey living in Georgia. Excitings.
*We don’t know if it was cold, we added this bit for dramatic effect.
**It wasn’t really magic, it was something you should ask your parents about.
Just, Like, Chill, Man. It’s Only Pot Plant…
Newport City Council is examining CCTV footage in an attempt to determine who planted, and subsequently harvested cannabis plants in their floral displays. The pots had been placed around the city in an attempt to brighten it up. We don’t know now whether the more chilled out demeanour of the locals was due to the flowers, or er, something else (we don’t actually know whether they had a more chilled out demeanour, we were trying to be funny). After the discovery of cannabis growing in the pots (we were gunna say pot in the pots, but thought it might get confusing) it has been harvested, so proving exactly what was planted will now be difficult.
