Police have warned Jersey teenagers against posting their phone numbers on a “lifts” Facebook page. According to the BBC reportnot only is it
dangerous to post phone numbers on a public forum, and accept lifts from total strangers, but it is also illegal for drivers to accept payment for lifts. The warning has been met with a negative reaction from those who use the page. They claim that most people who use the page know one another, that taxis are too expensive and that buses do not run late enough.
As a crack team of investigative reporters we decided to look into when the last bus runs on Jersey. Whilst unable to find a specific timetable for Jersey’s bus service we did find a forum post complaining that some buses only run four times a day. We lost interest in this story fairly quickly after this. The most perplexing, disturbing thing about the whole thing is that the lifts Facebook page has almost 1000 likes, whilst we at Newsnibbles are struggling to reach 100. What’s that about?
Could it possibly be something to do with the fact that the Jersey Lifts page enables people to arrange lifts? And – forgive me if I have missed something here – newsnibbles doesn’t.
