In fashion news this week it has been announced that Royal Ascot it will be tightening up its dress code for this year’s event after fears it has been too relaxed recently.
Under the new code fascinators, as described by Chimp Jones as “one of them there hair thingies” will not be allowed in the Royal Box, 
instead ladies will be expected to wear a full hat, skirt or dress of an acceptable length – knee length or longer, and presumably Wellies will be frowned upon, although that was not specified.
In the less elite “formal grandstand” which is open to the public, it will be mandatory for ladies to wear either a hat OR a fascinator, and naked female heads will not be accepted.
Men are not exempt from the new code. A full suit is to be worn including waistcoat and a tie is expected, although it is not specified as to whether this code also applies to the jockeys. Presumably the headwear rule also applies to gents, so full hat in the Royal Box, fascinator or hat elsewhere.
As an example of what will not be acceptable in the Royal Box, today’s image is Chimp Jones modelling his interpretation of a fascinator. Look out for him in the formal grandstand at this year’s event.
Fascinators have seen a rise in popularity since the recent Royal Wedding, even making it across the pond to America. Our US Political Correspondent, Bee told us “people thought they were so cute, tiny hats on the side of your head!”
We decided to see if the trend had reached the Newsnibbles fan base. The response was less than inspiring. Ben told us, “Fascinator sounds like some kind of flesh eating bug.”
