Britain Takes Another Record!

Well, after the disappointment of the Eurovision, and the impending disappointment of the Olympics it’s nice to know that Britain can still win records.  With the increase in retirement ages and extra tax on pensioners it is unlikely that we will ever win this one again, so here at Newsnibbles we are taking some time to bask in the glory.

Peterborough based siblings Margery Ruddle and Dorothy Richards are officially the world’s oldest siblings, with a combined age of two-hundred-and-thirteen.   One-hundred-and-eight year old Dorothy, and one-hundred-and-five-year-old Margery live in different nursing homes in Peterborough, and today they came together to receive a visit from the people at Guinness World Records.  The lucky ladies were presented with a certificate marking their auspicious record.  According to a video we watched they also received a shared poinsettia and a box of celebrations.  It is unclear as to who will take custody of the former as they live apart.

We asked the fans what the best thing they had ever won was.

Judith said: “The best thing I ever won was the 80 meter hurdles at school, there was a certificate with that too.” Once we started asking we couldn’t get rid of her and she added, “I have a trophy for most improved player in a season, a t-shirt with Best Teacher 2003 written on it and, a tin of toffees for my fancy dress flapper outfit in 1967.  It’s amazing what you can do with crape paper.”

Bee said: “Second runner up in a beauty pageant that only had 3 entrants. They gave me a trophy that fell apart within 3 months.”
