Give a Dog a Home

Bristol dogs’ and cats’ home is bursting at the seams with animals in all shapes and sizes in desperate need of a loving home.

Who wouldn’t want to give Riggs a home?

The centre is appealing to animal lovers who are thinking of getting a pet to consider adopting a rescue animal.  Factors like the recession are being blamed for the increase in the number of animals being given up for adoption and the centre is struggling to cope with the number of residents.

In a press release Julia Carey, Clinic Nursing Assistant at the RSPCA Clinic said, “We currently have 17 healthy cats and kittens waiting for new homes, taking up vital ‘beds’ in the Clinic because the Dogs & Cats Home simply does not have the space for them. Only yesterday we had 4 kittens brought in who had been found dumped in a potato sack and another pair of adult cats with their 4 kittens abandoned in a box outside a pub. This is a phenomenon we see every year during ‘kitten season’ but it is made that much worse this year by the increase number of dogs and small animals arriving at the Dogs & Cats Home.”

Julie Herbert, receptionist at the Dogs and Cats Home said, “Some animals are brought to us by devastated owners whose circumstances have changed and they simply can no longer care for their pet. However, sadly many irresponsible owners take on a pet without considering the needs of the animal or the responsibilities involved and as a result they end up here. We recently had a cat handed over to us because it “meowed too much”! It’s not just cats. We have just received 5 baby rabbits that were dumped in a country lane, which brings the total number of rabbits at the Home to 20.”

Here at Newsnibbles we are very pro giving a second chance to rescue animals, and most of our models are rescue animals.  Our Canine Correspondent, Annie Butler was once herself a rescue dog, all it took was some love and devotion and she is now an integral part of the Newsnibbles team.

So if you are in the market for a pet, then why not consider adoption?  If you’re in the Bristol area you can contact the centre directly on 0117 9776043 or through their website.  If you do adopt a new member of your family we would love to hear how it goes.
