In a recent survey it has been discovered that 55.6% of people say “Fuck off” out loud and bang accept repeatedly to get the message across every time a cookie warning pops up on a website they are trying to read.
Conversely only 11.1% of people actually click to read the cookie policy and understand it fully, with the remainder of respondents clicking accept and moving on.
“I decided to conduct the survey when I was trying to read an article about a badger, and a delayed cookie warning popped up and filled my screen,” the author of the survey explained. “I thought, I cannot be the only one this incensed by the interruption to my badger story, let’s find out.”
“I’m not surprised by the result,” one website owner told us. “it’s not just the readers who get pissed off. Do you think we as developers enjoy having to install popups telling people that our websites have cookies? Every f*cking website has cookies, they don’t work properly without them. It’s the person who actually writes the policy I feel sorry for. Putting all that work in to know absolutely no bugger is going to read it. What an utter waste of time.”
However, one person told us “I love a good cookie policy. Since lockdown I have made it my personal challenge to read the cookie policy of every website I visit. I get particularly excited when I find a site that has “dart” cookies. You know that’s some hardcore tracking then.”
